IntroductiontoQinghaiNormalUniversity

QinghaiNormalUniversity(QHNU)wasfoundedin1956. Itfocusesonundergraduateeducation,anditalsopayskeenattentionto graduateeducation,internationalstudenteducation,adulteducationand occupationaleducation.With9disciplinescoveringliterature,history, science,education,philosophy,economics,law,engineeringandmanagement,QHNU hasbecomeakeyuniversityattheprovinciallevelinChina,focusingon sciencesandliberalarts,coordinateddevelopmentofmulti-disciplines, possessingfeaturesofteachers’educationandlocalcolorofQinghai-Tibet Plateau.Asauniversityacquiringtherighttograntdoctor’sdegree,QHNUhas beendesignatedasakeyuniversityofbilingual(Tibetan-Chinese)teacher trainingeducationinWestChina,apilotuniversityforthecultivationof high-levelathletes,atrainingbaseofsocialsportsinstructors,information servicecenter(QinghaiProvince)ofCALISandaprimaryuniversityintheChina EducationandResearchNetwork(CERNET)inQinghaiProvince.
QHNU consistsof2collegesatdeputy-departmentlevelintermsoforganizational system(AdultEducationCollegeandTeachers’CollegeforNationalities),15 faculties,3attachedmiddleschoolsand5suchresearchinstitutionsasthe ResearchInstituteofCultureofQinghai-TibetPlateau,theInstituteof ResourceandEnvironmentinQinghai-TibetPlateau,theResearchInstituteof TeacherEducationTheoryandPractice,theCenterofTibetanInformation ResearchandtheResearchInstituteofPanchenLama.
Withthe authorizationoftheAcademicDegreesCommitteeoftheStateCouncil,QHNUhas acquiredtherighttograntdoctor’sdegreein3first-leveldisciplinesand12 second-leveldisciplines,andmaster’sdegreein11first-leveldisciplinesand 65second-leveldisciplinesaswellas5professionalmaster'sdegrees.QHNUnow has61undergraduatemajors(programs),amongwhichthereare4nationallevel and3provinciallevelprogramswithspecialfeatures,12provincialkey disciplines,1nationalexcellencecourse,23provincialexcellencecourses.It isalsoequippedwith21laboratorieswithvariouslevelssuchaskeylaboratory oftheMinistryofEducation,nationalexperimentalteachingdemonstration center,etc.
AtPsent,QHNUhasatotalnumberof15,000students studyingatassociatedegree,undergraduateandgraduateprogramsinan extensivevarietyoffields.Thenumberofstaffamountsto1,296,ofwhom,985 areprofessionalsofallkindsincluding21expertswhoaregrantedwithspecial governmentallowancefromtheStateCouncil,222professorsand338associate professors.11professorshavebeenselectedbyseveralwell-knownuniversities ofChinaasdoctoraltutors.
QHNUadherestotheprincipleof promotingteachingwithscientificresearch,activelyencouragesteachersto undertaketheresearchprojectsatbothnationalandprovinciallevelto strengthenscientificandteachingresearch.Inrecentyears,QHNUhas undertakenover400state-,ministry-andprovince-levelscientificprojects includinganation-levelProjectof“863”and2nation-levelkeyProjectof “973”.TheProject“TibetanComputerKeyboardandInputCodingMethod”was awardedthesecondprizeofNationalAwardsforScienceandTechnologyProgress in2004.TheProject“Chinese-TibetanScienceandTechnologyMachineTranslation System(CTSTMTS)”oftheState“863”High-techProjectshasfilledagapinthis fieldinChina,whosetechnologyisatanadvancedlevelintheworld.“The ResearchonPolynomialofGraphTheory”wasawardedthesecondprizeof provincialAwardsforScienceandTechnologyProgress.In2012,“theProjectof WetlandEcosystemRestorationandProtectionTechnologyinQilianMountains”has obtainedfinancialsupportfromtheMinistryofScienceandTechnology.
Asapilotuniversityforthecultivationofhigh-levelathletes, QHNUhasagreatreputationinseveraleventsofsports.Women’sbasketball team,ahigh-levelbasketballteam,haswonconsecutively12championsin NorthwestAreaofCUBA.Ithasalsowon3runner-upofCUBA,1runner-upand2 thirdplacesinNationalGamesofUniversityStudents,andthe2010world basketballchampionofuniversitystudents.Therearealsootheroutstanding athleteslikeLiXiuchunwhowonthebronzemedalinwomen’s10kmwalkingrace in1992’sBarcelonaOlympicGames,Qieyangshijiewhogotthebronzemedalin women’s20kmwalkingracein2012’sLondonOlympicGames,andYinShunjinwho wonthemarathongoldmedalinTwelfthNationalGamesin2013,whichrealizesa greatbreakthroughinsportsinQinghaiProvince.
AtPsent,with aninvestmentofnearly1.5billionyuan(around250millionUSD),the newcampus,whichcoversanareaofnearly100hectares,withvarious first-classfacilitiesinChina’swesternregionhasbeencompletedandputinto usesinceSeptember,2016.
Asinternationalexchangesand cooperationisburgeoninginrecentyears,QHNUhasestablishedcooperative relationshipwithsuchuniversitiesathomeas:ShandongUniversity,Lanzhou University,ShaanxiNormalUniversity,CapitalNormalUniversity,BeijingUnion University,TianjinNormalUniversity,NationalTaiwanNormalUniversityand TaiwanVanungUniversity.Followinguniversitiesandresearchinstitutesabroad: NanyangTechnologicalUniversity,PurdueUniversity,FortHaysStateUniversity, WesternKentuckyUniversity,BloomsburgUniversityofPennsylvania,TrumanState University,PomonaCaliforniaPolytechnicUniversity,UniversityofRegina,BSK InternationalOrganizationforInternationalAcademicExchange,Deggendorf InstituteofTechnology,TurkeyOkanUniversity,SunchonNationalUniversity,UniversitiMalaysiaSarawak,Universiti TeknikalMalaysiaMelaka.
Tofurtheradaptitselftoeconomicand socialdevelopmentinthenewcentury,QHNUwilldoasolidjobduringthenext fiveyearstointensifyitseffortsinteachingreform,educationquality, internationalexchangeandcooperation,andthefollow-upconstructionofthe newcampussoastoservesocietyfullyandforgeanevenbrighterfuturefor itself.
